The Jesuit Marauders successfully defended their D2 section title by defeating the Granite Bay Grizzlies and other teams last week at the District 56 pool in Elk Grove. The Marauders won the meet overall, beating Davis for a third time this season and completed an undefeated season for the varsity team. This is the 24th section title in team history.
The Marauders were dominant in all three relays, with our medley finishing 4th (Calkins - Becker - Bone - Siy), 1st in the 200 Free relay (Tepenkiozis, Siy, Zamudio and Irvine) and 1st in the 400 Free relay (Zamudio - Tepenkiozis - Irvine and Calkins). The freestyle relays are all-american consideration and all three relays are moving on to the CA State meet in Clovis May 11-May 13. Our success came with bringing almost 30 Marauders to the meet with standouts Soph Brady Calkins in the 200 Freestyle & 100 Backstroke, Soph Emi Zamudio in the 200 & 500 Freestyle, SR Evangelos Tepenkiozis in the 50 Freestyle & 100 Fly, JR Logan Irvine in the 100 Fly & 100 Backstroke, Freshman Adam Becker in the 200 IM, JR Finn Riddell in the 100 Backstroke, SR Aaron Siy in the 50 Freestyle, JR Matt Bone in the 100 Fly & 100 Breaststroke, Thomas Hannenian in the 100 Freestyle, Garret Nelson and Adan Fukui in the 500 Freestyle and Divers Cruz Silva, Michael Tait and Miles Beach. It was a great overall win and our F/S team finished 2nd in the section meet and our future looks bright with the up and coming swimmers Cooper Zarro, Campbell Fulton, Sam Branco, Jacob Pellow, Cameron Nassim, Nathan Lee, Rowan Taggatz, Brennan Harmatz, Bo Kemp and diver Jack Sheehy.
Congrats to Logan Irvine (JR) for setting a new team record in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 49.80, eclipsing the record set by Terry Johnson (49.99) in 2016. Great job Logan!
