Jesuit traveled to Concord on Saturday, September 16 to compete in the De la Salle Nike Invitational at Newhall Park. The competition opened up with the JV Top 10 race with athletes in this race running the same 3 mile course as the Varsity top 7. With only 4 runners competing, Jesuit did not figure into the team results but all 4 represented well with Junior Brady Blum moving up over the 2nd half of the race to finish 2nd overall in 16:45. Brady was followed by fellow Junior Daniel Krotine 7th in 17:14, Senior Lucas Rucker 17th in 17:33, and Junior Charles Kim 22nd in 17:41 in a field of 173 runners.
Next up was the Varsity race with 39 schools fielding teams and 271 runners in the field. After a frenetic start, Jesuit found itself boxed in early and well back of the lead runners over the first half mile of the race. Despite the unfortunate start, Jesuit moved up significantly, particularly over the second half of the race to finish in 2nd place to Davis (100 points) with a score of 143 points. The sophomore duo of Isaac Abbott and Drake Hoferer lead the team as the Marauders went 16-19-25-39-44. Senior Declan Higgins, and Juniors Chase Cressman and Navin Kadel rounded out the scoring 5 for the Marauders with Junior Trevor Felix and Freshman Lucas Alberts completing the Jesuit top 7.
Jesuit saved i’s most impressive race of the day for the Frosh/Soph top 10 race contested on the 2 mile course. In a field of 187 runners and 22 teams, Jesuit placed 6 runners in the top 10 and captured the team title with a very low score of 22 points to second place Leigh of the Central Coast Section 122 points. Freshmen Rafael Jopson 1st 11:06 and Ryan Tait 2nd 11:33 led the Marauders with Sophomores Nicholas Ryan 5th 11:48, Aaron Beasley 6th 11:51, John Barreiro 8th 11:52, Jackson Johns 9th 11:54, and Jaypal Reddy 17th 12:07 making up the top 7 Jesuit finishers.
The final race was the combined Frosh/Soph/JV unlimited race with a field of 211 finishers. Juniors Mitchell Sullivan 6th 12:22 and Tyler Thies 8th 12:33 led the Marauders as Jesuit placed 8 runners in the top 33. Freshman Jadon Fuentes 15th, Sophomore Keegan Butler 19th, Freshmen Nick Ramos 27th, Drew Eandi 31st, Gianni Allen 32nd, and Sophomore Alex Tate 33rd made up the top Jesuit finishers in this race.
