On Friday, Sept. 29, Jesuit High School Sacramento’s varsity football team defeated Clayton Valley Charter High School in a 26-0 shutout on CVC’s home turf. Jesuit scored its first touchdown of the game on an 11-yard run by quarterback C.J. Lee ’24 with eight minutes left in the 1st quarter. Jesuit would miss the extra point, leaving the score 6-0. Jesuit then quickly stopped CVC’s offense to regain possession, a possession that resulted in another Jesuit score on a 52-yard touchdown run by C.J. Jesuit unsuccessfully attempted a 2 point conversion. Neither team scored for the rest of the 1st quarter with Jesuit leading 12-0 heading into the second quarter. Jesuit turned the ball over to start the 2nd quarter. Jesuit’s defense responded with another stop, forcing CVC to punt. Neither team scored for the rest of the half, and so the game went into halftime with a 12-0 score in favor of Jesuit. Jesuit kicked off to CVC to start the 3rd quarter. The two teams went back and forth for most of the quarter until Johnnie Brannon IV ’24 scored a rushing touchdown with two minutes left in the 3rd. Jesuit made the extra point to expand their lead 19-0. In the 4th quarter, Jesuit regained possession and struck fast on a 40-yard touchdown run by Johnnie. Jesuit made the extra point. Both teams then went back to trading possessions until the end of the game. The final score was 26-0 in favor of Jesuit. C.J. led his team, throwing a total of 108-yards and running for 106-yards and two touchdowns. Johnnie had 68 rushing yards on seven carries as well as two touchdowns. The game marks Jesuit’s fourth win in a row. Jesuit returns to league play on Friday, Oct. 6, at Franklin High School.
