On Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, Jesuit High School Sacramento’s varsity football team defeated Elk Grove High School 28-8 at home on Senior Night.
The game started slow, with neither team being able to score for the first 10 minutes. The first points of the game were scored by Jesuit quarterback C.J. Lee ’24 who scored a rushing touchdown on a 35-yard run. Kicker Colin Davey ’24 scored the extra point to make the score 7-0 Jesuit. EGHS was unable to score on the last possession of the quarter.
After receiving a punt from EGHS to start the 2nd quarter, Jesuit found themselves in the red zone with seven minutes left. They were unable to capitalize, however, missing a short field goal with four minutes left in the 2nd quarter.
EGHS’s next possession was cut short by Jesuit safety Caleb Dixon ’24 who intercepted a pass to put Jesuit within striking distance. This time, Jesuit did capitalize, scoring a touchdown on a 10-yard pass from C.J. to tight end Cooper Babb ’24 with less than one minute left in the half. At the end of the half, the score was 14-0 in favor of Jesuit.
Jesuit received the ball to start the 2nd half but was forced to punt three minutes in. Jesuit’s defense was able to stop EGHS again, forcing another punt. Then, running back Johnnie Brannon ’24 ran 25 yards to the endzone to give Jesuit a 20-point lead. Colin made the extra point, and at the end of the half, the score was 21-0 Jesuit.
After a quiet start to the fourth quarter, Johnnie scored another touchdown for Jesuit, this time on a 96-yard run. Colin connected on his third PAT of the game. EGHSwould score on their final possession of the game, on a 15-yard pass. They also made a 2-point conversion, and the game ended with a score of 28-8 in favor of Jesuit.
C.J. finished the game with 108 passing yards, 58 rushing yards, and two total touchdowns. Johnnie finished with 132 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.
The win marks Jesuit’s seventh win in a row, and Jesuit remains undefeated in league play. Their next game is an away game on Friday, Oct. 27 against the 2-7 Davis Blue Devils.
