Jesuit High School Sacramento varsity football continued their winning streak on Saturday Sep. 23 with a decisive 41-10 victory against Pleasant Grove High School High School. Jesuit got an early lead, on a 61-yard rushing touchdown from quarterback C.J. Lee ’24 one minute into the game, followed by an extra point by kicker George Hemmen ’24 to make the score 7-0 Jesuit. PGHS’s first offensive drive ended quickly in a punt, allowing Jesuits offense to take the field again. Small plays helped the Marauders advance into the red zone. The drive ended with a 16-yard rushing touchdown from running-back Drew Vassar ’24 with five minutes to go in the 1st. George made another PAT, and neither team scored for the rest of the quarter, making the score 14-0 Jesuit going into the 2nd quarter. The 2nd quarter started with a PGHS possession that ended in a missed field goal. Jesuit started their drive with a 26-yard run from running-back Alan Cordano ’25. Jesuit made more small plays to get to the five-yard line where C.J. scored another rushing touchdown with seven minutes to go in the quarter. George completed his third PAT to make the score 21-0 Jesuit. PGHS’s next drive didn’t last long, and after a punt, Jesuit found themselves on their 40 yard line. Jesuit quickly advanced down the field, and the drive ended in a 24-yard pass from C.J. to wide-receiver Caleb Dixon ’24 and George again made the PAT with five minutes to go in the quarter. The score was 28-0 Jesuit at the half. PGHS started the 2nd half with the ball but punted after a minute, leaving Jesuit on PGHS’s 44-yard line. Jesuit started the scoring in the 2nd half with a 17-yard touchdown run by C.J. with seven minutes to go in the 3rd. After another made PAT, Jesuit held a 35-0 lead. PGHS responded with their first scoring drive of the game, a 30-yard field goal to make the score 35-3 Jesuit. Later in the quarter, an interception by Alan led to a 72-yard touchdown with under a minute to go in the 3rd quarter. George missed the extra point and the score was 41-3 in favor of Jesuit. PGHS started the 4th quarter with a 72-yard pass for a touchdown. The PAT was successful, making the score 41-10 Jesuit. Neither team scored again. Sophomore defensive back Ryan Reeves ’26, who was making his varsity debut along with Noah Briceño ’26 and Alex Dewar ’26, intercepted a pass in the last minute of the game that allowed Jesuit to run out the clock. C.J. finished the game with 244-yards, 136 rushing, 108 passing. Johnnie Brannon IV ’24 had 112 total yards. Defensive end Cooper Babb ’24 and linebacker Jack Patock ’25 had six tackles each. Two of Cooper’s tackles were sacks, and he also caused a fumble.
