Jesuit Cross Country opened its 2019 Delta League season with team and individual victories in both the Varsity and Junior Varsity races. In the Frosh/Soph race, Jesuit was lurking at the mile mark before the Jesuit trio of eventual race winner Cole Rasmussen (10:30.6), Gavin Joaquin (10:33.1) and Gabe Giannini (10:37.6) made a move over the last ¾ of a mile to gap the field. Team-wise, Jesuit took 7 of the top 11 places with Spencer Morrison, Joey Ryan, Julian Curiale, and Harley Sherman rounding out the top 7 who all ran under 11 minutes for the 1.92 mile course.

In the Varsity Boys race, with Davis and Jesuit holding back in anticipation of Saturday’s meet, Matt Strangio and Patrick McGonigle of Sheldon ran at tempo pace the first 2.5 miles before Strangio took the lead to win by 6 seconds in 15:26.7 on the 3 mile course. Senior Nick Salonites (4th – 16:00.7), Junior Michael Chambers (10th – 16:22.0), Sophomore Braden King (13th – 16:28.3), and Senior Connor King (21st – 17:00.0) rounded out the scoring 5 for Jesuit which wound up edging Davis 49 to 57 to set up the League Championship showdown next month.
