Marlon joined our coaching staff in 2012 and serves as Head Varsity Football Coach. He has had many years experience of coaching football. His experience prior to coming to Jesuit includes 14 years as head coach at St. Patrick-St. Vincent High School in Vallejo, and 7 years of coaching at De La Salle in Concord.
Marlon was a three year starter at De La Salle High School as a running back. After graduation there, he attended St. Mary’s College and was a member of the football team for two years. Unfortunately, injuries kept him from competing in any games. He later graduated from St. Mary’s in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
As a player at DLS, Marlon earned All Bay Athletic League and All Bay Area player. He also earned DLS’s most valuable back. While there, he helped DLS win three North Coach Section titles and post a dominating record of 37 wins to 2 losses.
As head coach at St. Patrick-St. Vincent, Marlon built a winning tradition. He led the Bruins to three Bay Shore Athletic League titles in 2004, 2006, and 2007. Coach Blanton was also named Coach of the Year in those years as well. In 2006, the SPSV football team won the North Coast Section, and earned the runner-up spot in 2007. During this run of success, the Bruins posted a 22 game win streak. Marlon achieved a record of 85 wins and 65 losses in his fourteen-year coaching career at SPSV.
Coach Blanton joined the Marauder family in 2012, where he coached his inaugural season with Jesuit. He posted a 5 win-5 loss record while playing in the highly competitive Delta River League. He enjoyed his first Holy Bowl win over Christian Brothers with a score of 28-23.
Coach Blanton’s philosophy is grounded on the idea of creating an environment where people want to give the best of themselves on all levels; physically, mentally, and spiritually. His greatest coaching moment was achieving success at a place where no-one thought it was possible.
